Pueblo Police Department arrests 26-year-old man in fatal hit-and-run case

Pueblo, CO – The Pueblo Police Department announced the arrest of a 26-year-old man in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred earlier this year.

On May 20, 2026, officers arrested Ramon Ortiz in relation to a deadly crash that took place on March 3, 2026, at approximately 4:30 p.m. at Santa Fe Dr. and Northern Ave. in Pueblo.

According to the Pueblo Police Department, officers were dispatched to the intersection in response to a traffic accident involving an e-bike and a white Kia sedan.

Upon arrival, the e-bike rider was found with fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The victim was later identified by the Pueblo County Coroner as Richard J. Murillo.

Investigators determined that the Kia had left the scene before officers arrived. The Pueblo Police Department’s Real-Time Crime Center later located the suspect vehicle, providing updates that led officers to an unoccupied white Kia at 1300 S. Queens Ave. Authorities confirmed the vehicle had been reported stolen on March 2, 2026.

Following the investigation, Ortiz was charged with second-degree motor vehicle theft, driving under revocation, careless driving, failure to remain at the scene of a fatal accident, and failure to notify police of an accident.

The investigation remains ongoing as traffic investigators continue to review evidence related to the case. Police also noted that this incident marks the fourth fatal crash investigated by the department in 2026.
