Driver charged after fatal crash kills two women in Pueblo

Pueblo, CO – Two women are dead and a Pueblo man faces serious charges following a fatal vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash that occurred early Wednesday morning.

According to the Pueblo Police Department, officers were dispatched around 2:00 a.m. on June 11 to the northbound I-25 on-ramp at 13th Street after receiving reports of a vehicle accident involving a car stopped on the railroad tracks.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a vehicle on the tracks and two injured women nearby. One woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was transported to a local hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

The Pueblo Police Traffic Investigation Unit and the Investigations Division responded to process the scene. Officers later located the vehicle’s registered owner, identified as 41-year-old Carlos Miranda, at his residence. During questioning, Miranda admitted to being the driver at the time of the crash. He told officers he believed he had struck a dog and was unaware he had hit two people.

Investigators determined the two victims had been walking southbound on the on-ramp while pushing a bicycle when they were hit by the northbound vehicle.

Miranda was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and two counts of Vehicular Homicide. He was booked into the Pueblo County Detention Center.

Police emphasized that the details provided are based on preliminary information and are subject to change as the investigation continues.
