COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System (ECHCS) will hold its 15th annual VA2K Walk & Roll event this Wednesday at the PFC Floyd K. Lindstrom VA Clinic on Centennial Boulevard. The event is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and aims to encourage employees to adopt a more active lifestyle while raising support for the VA Homeless Program.
Participants will have the option to walk or run approximately 1.25 miles during the event. Leading the walk will be James Crabtree, assistant director of the Pikes Peak region; Victor Gomez, southern Colorado site manager; and members of the VA ECHCS Whole Health team.
The event not only promotes physical activity but also offers an opportunity for veterans and staff to learn about the VA Move Program and sample healthy treats. Organizers advise participants to bring a water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the walk.
Vicki Gauthier, VA ECHCS Employee Whole Health Coordinator, emphasized the benefits of the event, stating, “Help yourself while helping others by participating in the VA2K. Incorporating self-care into your day can improve your health and help manage stress, allowing you to be more present in your personal and professional life.” She added that the annual VA2K events across the nation generate millions of dollars in donated goods to support homeless veterans.
Attendees are encouraged to bring donations to support the VA Homeless Program. Requested items include gift cards for King Soopers and Walmart, phone minute cards, full or queen-sized air mattresses, kitchen and bath move-in supplies, individually packaged snacks, toiletries and personal care items (excluding samples), and lip balm or Chapstick.
