COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Fire crews responded Monday afternoon to a small grass fire burning just off South Nevada Avenue, south of downtown Colorado Springs.
According to the Colorado Springs Fire Department, the fire was reported shortly before 12:05 p.m. and was estimated to be less than a quarter acre in size. Despite its small footprint, firefighters encountered difficulties reaching the blaze due to its location near Interstate 25.
Smoke was visible from the highway, prompting warnings for drivers to exercise caution while traveling through the area. No structures were reported to be threatened, and no injuries or evacuations were issued as of early Monday afternoon.
Fire crews remained on the scene working to contain and fully extinguish the flames. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and remains under investigation.
The Colorado Springs Fire Department continues to monitor conditions and advises residents to report any signs of fire activity, especially as temperatures rise and vegetation dries in the warmer months.
