Manitou Springs Awarded $250,000 Grant to Advance Creek Walk Trail Project

MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo. — The City of Manitou Springs has secured a $250,000 grant from the Colorado Department of Transportation’s Revitalizing Main Streets program to fund the next phase of its ongoing Creek Walk Trail project.

The grant will be used to support Phase 4 of the trail’s construction, which city officials describe as a vital infrastructure and recreational connection between Mayfair Avenue and Old Man’s Trail. This phase is a key component of the city’s broader Creek Walk Master Plan, aimed at improving walkability and connectivity throughout Manitou Springs.

According to a release from the city, Phase 4 will focus on expanding ADA-accessible trail segments, enhancing pedestrian access along Fountain Creek, and improving overall connectivity within the town. The trail is intended to serve as a scenic alternative route for pedestrians and cyclists, eventually stretching from Schryver Park to Rainbow Falls.

Once completed, the Creek Walk Trail will link neighborhoods, parks, historic landmarks, and downtown businesses, creating a cohesive and accessible path through the heart of Manitou Springs.

Construction on Phase 4 is scheduled to begin shortly after Labor Day, with completion anticipated before the city’s annual Emma Crawford Coffin Races, pending contractor availability and weather conditions. A formal Request for Proposals (RFP) for construction work is expected to be issued in June.

City officials also confirmed they are actively pursuing funding for Phases 5 and 6 of the trail. Phase 5 would continue the route from Old Man’s Trail to El Paso Boulevard, incorporating links to Hiawatha Gardens, while Phase 6 would connect the Serpentine roundabout to Rainbow Falls.

Staff from the City of Manitou Springs are working closely with CDOT and other key stakeholders to move these future phases forward.

For further details about the Creek Walk Trail project, residents can contact the Manitou Springs Public Services Department at (719) 685-2573.
