COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Jessie Kimber, Economic Development Director and military affairs liaison for the City of Colorado Springs, has been named the 2024 Fort Carson Good Neighbor, a prestigious recognition awarded annually to a community member who enhances the quality of life for soldiers and their families.
Kimber was formally inducted during a ceremony on Wednesday by Major General David Doyle, commanding general of the 4th Infantry Division. She becomes the 49th inductee into the distinguished program since its inception in 1978, and the first City of Colorado Springs employee to receive the honor since former Police Chief Pete Carey in 2013.
A 24-year-old Navy veteran, Kimber was recognized for her extensive efforts supporting the Fort Carson community. Her work includes hosting or participating in more than 140 career workshops and hiring fairs, partnering with the Fort Carson Employment Readiness Program to assist over 220 military spouses and family members, and leading outreach projects to aid veterans transitioning into civilian life.
“I am humbled and honored to join the ranks of those who have given so much to our military community here in Colorado Springs, the best hometown in the Army,” said Kimber during her acceptance. “This jacket does not represent my work alone, but the work of so many nonprofits and volunteers who show up for military families and servicemembers every day. Our work is never done, and together we will continue to serve our incredible military community.”
City officials credit Kimber with significantly strengthening the bond between Fort Carson and the surrounding Colorado Springs area through her leadership and advocacy. Her initiatives have not only provided direct support to soldiers and their families but have also fostered long-term partnerships between military programs and civilian organizations.
The Fort Carson Good Neighbor program honors one individual each year from the local community whose contributions positively impact the installation’s servicemembers, civilians, and their families. Kimber’s induction reflects both her professional dedication and her personal commitment to the well-being of the military community.
