Multiple Wildfires Spark Across Pueblo County, Firefighters Battle to Contain Blazes

PUEBLO COUNTY, CO – Several wildfires have ignited across Pueblo County today, with one of the largest fires in the Arkansas River Bottom growing to 50 acres and remaining completely uncontained as of Thursday evening.

The Daniel Road Fire, which started earlier in the day, has quickly escalated, burning at least 38 acres. Despite a significant firefighting effort, no containment numbers have been released, leaving authorities and residents on high alert. As of the latest update, firefighters are still working to control the blaze, but strong winds and dry conditions are making the situation particularly challenging.

In contrast, a smaller fire near Highway 50 and Nyberg Road broke out later in the day but was quickly contained. By 4:45 p.m., fire crews reported the fire had been 100% contained after burning just a quarter of an acre. The fire department is currently in the “mopping up” phase, ensuring that no embers remain to rekindle the blaze.

While the smaller fire is under control, the situation remains tense, especially with multiple blazes occurring simultaneously. Firefighters are also responding to another fire burning near Fowler, though details on its size and containment status remain limited.

The fires come amid a Red Flag Warning in effect across Pueblo County for Thursday, with strong winds and low humidity creating ideal conditions for the rapid spread of wildfires. The National Weather Service issued the warning, urging caution in outdoor activities due to the heightened risk of fire.

Local officials are urging residents to remain vigilant and stay informed about evacuation orders or safety precautions. Pueblo County and Baca County are using the Rave alert system to notify residents of any emergencies. Those who have not yet signed up for notifications are encouraged to do so through the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office or Baca County’s official website.

As these fires continue to develop, local authorities assure the public that they are doing everything they can to bring the blazes under control. News5 will provide updates as more information becomes available.
