Greenhorn Meadows Park in Colorado City Set for Major Overhaul

COLORADO CITY, CO — A popular park in Colorado City is set to undergo a significant transformation thanks to a generous grant and community support. Greenhorn Meadows Park, located just southwest of Pueblo, is receiving a major facelift that will include new sports fields, playgrounds, and more.

The Town of Colorado City, in collaboration with the non-profit organization Valley First, secured a $500,000 grant from Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) to fund the project. This funding will help develop a brand-new football field at the park, a highly anticipated addition for the community. In addition to the grant, Valley First has raised over $2 million in private donations, further fueling the transformation.

“This is a dream come true for our community,” said Misty Sprague, a representative of Valley First. “As a parent, it’s been incredible to see the excitement from the kids. Every time we drive by, my kids can’t help but point out the changes. It’s inspiring to see their enthusiasm for the new space.”

Alongside the football field, the park’s upgrade will feature a new baseball field, an expanded playground area, and a new trail for visitors to enjoy. These enhancements are designed to make the park more accessible and offer a variety of recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of October, bringing a fresh new look and a host of modern amenities to the area. With the support of Great Outdoors Colorado, Valley First, and the community, Greenhorn Meadows Park is poised to become an even more vital part of Colorado City’s landscape.

As the upgrades near completion, local families and outdoor enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating the park’s new offerings, eager to enjoy the upgraded facilities in the near future.
