El Paso County, CO — As a significant snowstorm approaches, road crews in Colorado Springs and El Paso County are preparing for a challenging few days of winter weather. The storm is expected to bring a mix of snow and potentially icy road conditions, with accumulations ranging from a trace to several inches.
Tim Stickel, Highway Division Manager for El Paso County Public Works, emphasized that the primary concern for the upcoming storm will be the icy road conditions. “The weather conditions are expected to worsen quickly, so we are making sure that all our equipment, including graders, are fully prepared to handle the snow and high winds,” Stickel said. “We’ll be ready to roll out with all trucks hooked up, working non-stop to address the situation.”
The county has been in regular communication with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), monitoring the forecast closely to ensure they are prepared for the worst. Crews are planning to continue preemptive work as long as the weather holds up but expect to ramp up their efforts once the snow begins to fall.
With heavy snow and gusty winds forecasted, officials are urging residents to delay travel plans on Monday and Tuesday until roads are cleared and conditions improve. For those who must travel, the county recommends ensuring vehicles are equipped with a well-stocked emergency kit, including essentials like blankets, water, and non-perishable food.
As the storm moves in, El Paso County is committed to keeping roadways safe, but drivers are encouraged to exercise caution and remain aware of rapidly changing conditions.
