CENTENNIAL, Colo. — A 37-year-old man, Timothy Davis, has been formally charged in connection with a bizarre and disturbing theft at a local pet store. The incident, which took place on February 21 at Perfect Pets, located at 6840 S. University Boulevard, has drawn significant attention after surveillance footage revealed a dramatic attempt to steal puppies.
Davis faces several charges, including theft, conspiracy to commit a crime, and three drug-related offenses, according to the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office. His arrest followed a theft operation that appears to have involved at least four suspects.
Surveillance footage from the store shows the sequence of events leading up to the crime. The video begins with a male suspect engaging with an employee at the counter, while another suspect, later identified as Davis, is seen suddenly collapsing to the floor, appearing to fake a seizure. According to store owner statements, this was a deliberate distraction designed to divert attention from the theft.
While employees attempted to assist the suspect on the floor, the second man quickly moved to the back of the store, took two puppies from a display cage, and made a dash for the door. A brief struggle ensued as employees tried to stop the suspect, but he managed to flee with the animals. The suspect dropped the puppies at one point but quickly scooped them up again before fleeing the scene in what witnesses described as a Cadillac Escalade.
Despite the chaos, Davis was apprehended by authorities. However, the other suspects managed to escape, and law enforcement continues to search for the second stolen bulldog puppy, which remains missing.
This theft was not an isolated incident. The Perfect Pets store had already been targeted earlier in the month, on February 12, when a woman reportedly stole a puppy by concealing it in a baby stroller. The store has since expressed concern over the safety of its animals and has called for the public’s help in locating those involved in the crimes.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the remaining suspects or the missing puppy to come forward. Tips can be directed to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office tip line at 720-874-8477.
The case serves as a reminder of the vulnerability of small businesses and the lengths to which some individuals will go in committing criminal acts. As investigations continue, authorities are hopeful that the remaining suspects will be apprehended, and the stolen animals returned to safety.
