High-Speed Chase Ends in Arrest of Florida Murder Suspect in Widefield

Pueblo, Co. – A dangerous high-speed chase that spanned multiple cities ended Tuesday afternoon in Widefield with the arrest of 28-year-old De Sean Phang, a Florida man wanted for second-degree murder. The pursuit, which involved local and federal authorities, reached speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour and put both law enforcement and civilians at risk.

The arrest took place around 4:00 p.m. in the parking lot of Big R on Fontaine Boulevard. Authorities say the chase began when Phang, who was wanted for allegedly killing a man in Miramar, Florida, was spotted in the Colorado Springs area. The U.S. Marshals Service, Colorado Springs Police, Fountain Police, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and El Paso County deputies were all involved in the pursuit, which saw the suspects weaving in and out of traffic at dangerous speeds.

Phang had been on the run since a murder warrant was issued for him last month. Investigators traced him to Colorado, where he had been traveling between Colorado Springs, Highlands Ranch, and Englewood. His arrest in Widefield came after authorities identified him as a high-profile fugitive.

Witnesses in the area described a chaotic scene as the heavy police presence grew. Amy Dunavin, a hair stylist working at Sassy Shears Hair Design, recalled seeing the swarm of law enforcement vehicles outside the window of the salon. “I looked outside and all I see are cop cars everywhere,” Dunavin said, adding that the sheer number of officers led her to believe the suspect was someone of major significance.

While the high-speed chase caused significant tension in the area, fortunately, no one was seriously injured. One innocent driver was sideswiped during the pursuit but was unharmed. Authorities confirmed that Phang was taken into custody without any further injuries to the public or officers.

Phang now faces charges for the murder in Florida, and law enforcement officials are continuing to investigate the details surrounding the chase and his movements prior to his capture. Despite the danger involved, the swift coordination between law enforcement agencies ensured the suspect was apprehended and safely brought into custody.

The incident serves as a reminder of the high risks law enforcement officers face in the pursuit of dangerous suspects and the sometimes volatile nature of high-speed chases.
