State lawmakers, Lt. Governor Primavera work on legislation to support safety-net providers and reduce health care costs

Pueblo, CO – On February 4, 2025, Lt. Governor Primavera, Rep. Kyle Brown, and Colorado health care leaders discussed legislation aimed at easing the financial strain on community health centers.

As safety-net providers struggle to stay open due to tight budgets, the new proposal seeks to lower health care costs for state employees, small businesses, and the most vulnerable populations.

“We’ve made progress, but Coloradans are still paying too much,” said Lt. Governor Primavera.

The legislation will support primary care clinics, which are crucial for seniors, rural residents, and families, by addressing high commercial insurance reimbursement rates compared to Medicare rates.

Rep. Brown emphasized the legislation’s goal of reducing costs for Coloradans while ensuring critical care remains accessible.
