TELLER COUNTY, Colo. — Fire crews swiftly contained a small wildfire Saturday afternoon that burned approximately three acres two miles southeast of Westcreek.
Responders including fire engines and helicopters were dispatched to the scene, where crews worked quickly to manage the blaze. Rainfall during firefighting efforts helped to limit the fire’s spread and intensity.
By 5:15 p.m., the fire was fully contained, with no growth beyond the initial three acres reported. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire.
This incident follows the larger Turkey Track Fire in mid-April, which scorched 128 acres near a shooting area in Teller County. That fire was believed to have been ignited by target shooting during Red Flag Warning conditions.
The United States Forest Service notes that the Turkey Track Shooting Area has historically experienced between five and ten fires annually, largely due to target shooting activities.
