COLORADO SPRINGS, CO — A shooting on Thursday morning in Colorado Springs’ southwestern side is under investigation following an attempted robbery that took a violent turn.
According to the Colorado Springs Police Department, officers responded to a call for service around 6:40 a.m. reporting a shooting on Norwood Avenue, just south of Meadows Park near the Stratton Meadows area.
Police say the incident occurred when a woman was leaving her home to start her day. As she approached her vehicle, a man confronted her and demanded that she hand over some of her personal items. The woman reportedly refused to comply, and the suspect then shot her.
The victim, whose identity has not been released, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. At this time, police have not made any arrests, and the investigation is ongoing.
Authorities provided limited details on the suspect but described him as a Hispanic male. No additional information has been shared as of Thursday morning.
On-site reports indicated that Norwood Avenue was blocked off as police conducted their investigation. Crime scene tape was also visible around a home in the area.
As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward.
