Pueblo Woman Sentenced to Life in Prison for Infant’s Death

PUEBLO, CO — A Pueblo woman was sentenced to life in prison following her conviction for the first-degree murder of her infant child, according to the Pueblo County 10th Judicial District Attorney’s Office. Mythia Latka, 23, was found guilty after an 11-day trial and a four-day jury deliberation. She was sentenced on March 31, 2025, for the death of her two-year-old child.

The case began on January 31, 2023, when the Pueblo Police Department responded to a call from a local hospital regarding an unresponsive child. The toddler, who was later identified as Latka’s child, was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead later that evening. The child had suffered injuries that ultimately led to their death.

According to investigators, the child lived with Latka at a residence in the 2200 block of East 12th Street. After the child was brought to the hospital, officers executed a search warrant at the home, gathering evidence in connection with the case. Following the investigation, Latka was arrested and charged with child abuse causing death.

The trial included a review of the evidence, which led the jury to find Latka guilty of first-degree murder. The jury deliberated for four days before reaching a verdict. In addition to the murder charge, Latka was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The case has shocked the Pueblo community, and authorities have expressed their commitment to seeking justice for the child. Child abuse cases like this one raise important concerns about the safety of children and the need for continued efforts to protect vulnerable individuals.
