Pueblo Department of Public Health and Environment to Receive Additional Funding

PUEBLO, CO — The City of Pueblo is poised to provide a financial boost to the Pueblo Department of Public Health and Environment (PDPHE), with more than $760,000 earmarked for the department, pending approval by the city council. This amount represents an increase of approximately $50,000 over the usual funding the department receives from the city.

Randy Evetts, the Health Director for PDPHE, expressed the significance of the extra funds, explaining that the financial support from the city is critical for delivering a wide range of essential services to the community. “The money from the city helps us to deliver services that otherwise we wouldn’t have funding to deliver,” Evetts said. “It allows us to make sure restaurants are safe, that pools are safe, and that we are able to provide immunizations across the board to people who need them.”

In addition to the city’s contribution, Pueblo County also allocates about $1 million to the department’s budget, helping to further support its efforts in maintaining public health standards throughout the area.

The increased funding comes at a time when local health departments are increasingly recognized for their role in ensuring the safety and well-being of residents, particularly in areas such as sanitation, food safety, and disease prevention.

Once approved by the city council, this new infusion of funds will allow the Pueblo Department of Public Health and Environment to continue its crucial work in safeguarding the health of the community.
