MONUMENT, Colo. — A deadly shooting that took place Friday afternoon at a King Soopers parking lot in Monument is now being investigated as a murder-suicide, according to authorities.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) reported that the incident unfolded around 12:20 p.m. when a caller alerted law enforcement to a shooting in the parking lot of the King Soopers located on Baptist Road. Upon arrival, Monument officers and EPSO deputies discovered a woman dead inside her car. Witnesses told authorities that they saw a man leaving the scene in a green Subaru.
Just 22 minutes after the initial call, at approximately 12:42 p.m., Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) officers received a report of a suicide on the 6000 block of Bundleflower Court. Upon arriving at the residence, CSPD officers found a green Subaru parked nearby. EPSO detectives responded to the scene shortly thereafter.
Authorities from both law enforcement agencies spent several hours interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence. Their investigation led them to conclude that the two individuals involved were known to each other, prompting them to classify the incident as a murder-suicide.
As of now, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office has not released the identities of the deceased individuals or an official cause of death. Law enforcement officials emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing, and they will provide more information as it becomes available.
The incident has left the community shaken, and local authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
