Manitou Springs, CO — The Manitou Springs Police Department has issued an alert to residents and visitors regarding a fraudulent website claiming to sell psilocybin, commonly known as “magic mushrooms.” The site, www.shroomwonders.com, presents itself as a legitimate business but is part of a scam targeting consumers.
According to the police, the website appears professional, with functional links and seemingly genuine customer reviews. However, authorities have confirmed that the website’s claims are false. It fraudulently uses the name “Shroom Wonders” and lists an address at 937 Manitou Avenue, which is actually the location of a completely unrelated and legitimate business, Mushroom Mondays.
Further investigation revealed that the phone number provided on the website, listed as Colorado-based, leads to a voicemail service that eventually directs callers to a text message requesting payment through PayPal’s “Family and Friends” option. This payment method, known for lacking buyer protection, is a common tactic used by scammers to avoid detection.
Additional records show that the website is registered in Nairobi, Kenya, and there is no valid business license for “Shroom Wonders” in Colorado. Police have confirmed that the site operates without any legal standing in the state.
Authorities are urging anyone who has attempted to make a purchase on shroomwonders.com or has further information about the scam to contact El Paso County dispatch at (719) 390-5555. The public is also encouraged to be cautious of similar fraudulent websites and to report any suspicious activity to local law enforcement.
