Pueblo, CO – The Pueblo Police Department is investigating the city’s first homicide of 2026 following a shooting at the Days Inn on North Elizabeth Street.
Officers responded on February 7, 2026, at approximately 6:34 p.m. to a report of a shooting at 4201 N. Elizabeth Street. Upon arrival, authorities found a male victim who was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the shooting followed an argument that escalated into violence.
Detectives have arrested 63-year-old James McKenney on a charge of First-Degree Murder. The Pueblo County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the victim after next-of-kin notifications are completed.
Police noted that there were no homicides in Pueblo year-to-date in 2025. Officials cautioned that the details of the investigation are preliminary and subject to change as additional evidence is collected and analyzed.
