PUEBLO COUNTY, Colo. — A kidnapping victim was rescued Sunday night after a harrowing four-hour ordeal involving a statewide car chase, authorities confirmed.
According to the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office, 28-year-old Shane McSwane of Fort Collins forcibly entered the victim’s vehicle in Aurora and drove her across multiple locations in Colorado. During the incident, McSwane reportedly robbed a Circle K convenience store in Colorado City before leading deputies on a 30-mile high-speed chase south of Pueblo along Interstate 25.
The victim was found alive and physically unharmed in the back seat of the vehicle, though she appeared visibly shaken and emotional, said Pueblo County Sheriff David Lucero. The rescue was facilitated by location-sharing technology on the victim’s boyfriend’s phone, enabling law enforcement to track the vehicle’s movement and respond quickly.
“We are incredibly thankful that this incident ended without further harm to the victim or to the public,” Sheriff Lucero stated. He also commended the swift and professional response of his deputies and the Huerfano County Sheriff’s Office for their courageous efforts.
McSwane was taken into custody without further incident and now faces multiple charges, including second-degree kidnapping, aggravated robbery, and unlawful sexual contact.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident as they work to ensure public safety.
