Grass Fire Near Lake Minnequa in Pueblo Now Under Control

PUEBLO, CO — A grass fire that ignited near Lake Minnequa Thursday evening has been brought under control, according to the Pueblo Fire Department. The fire, which began around 5:30 p.m., quickly spread across approximately 70 acres on the southwest side of the lake.

Despite the significant size of the blaze, no structures were at risk, and no evacuations were necessary. Firefighters worked tirelessly to contain the flames, and crews will remain on the scene to monitor any lingering hot spots throughout the night.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation as officials work to determine how it started. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

Local authorities are urging residents in Pueblo and Baca counties to sign up for emergency alerts through the Rave system to stay informed during future emergencies. Residents of Baca County can register via the county’s official website, while those in Pueblo County can sign up through the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office website.

While the fire may be under control for now, officials are emphasizing the importance of remaining vigilant as dry conditions continue in the region.
