Garden of the Gods Foundation Awards $764,639 to Colorado Springs Parks for Park Enhancements

Colorado Springs, CO – The Garden of the Gods Foundation has awarded a significant contribution of $764,639 to the Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services (PRCS) department, a donation that promises to enhance the iconic Garden of the Gods Park for both visitors and future generations. The announcement was made on Thursday, February 13, during the Parks Advisory Board meeting.

The funding will support a range of crucial projects aimed at preserving the natural beauty of the park while improving safety and the overall visitor experience. Key initiatives will include stormwater protection efforts, fire mitigation strategies, and the acquisition of a new vehicle for park rangers to better manage the park.

In a statement, Britt Haley, Director of PRCS, expressed gratitude for the generous donation, emphasizing its impact on the park’s long-term sustainability. “We are incredibly grateful for the Garden of the Gods Foundation’s contributions and continuous support of Garden of the Gods Park. These funds will play a crucial role in enhancing our beloved Garden of the Gods Park, helping us to celebrate and preserve its natural beauty for future generations,” said Haley.

The donation will also fund additional projects, including the installation of new wayfinding signage along park trails, as well as studies focused on local bird and bat species. These efforts aim to monitor and protect wildlife within the park. The funds will also support continued tribal consultations, ensuring that Indigenous voices are part of the ongoing stewardship of the land.

As part of a separate initiative, the Garden of the Gods Foundation plans to install new directional signage and murals at the pedestrian underpass beneath 30th Street. The murals, created by local artist Douglas Rouse, will provide clear navigation to both Garden of the Gods Park and the Garden of the Gods Visitor and Nature Center.

Christina Haywood, Executive Director of the Garden of the Gods Foundation, highlighted the Foundation’s long-standing commitment to preserving the park. “For nearly 30 years, the Garden of the Gods Foundation has been committed to preserving and enhancing this iconic park for the millions who visit each year,” she said. “This contribution underscores our commitment to funding essential projects that safeguard the park’s unique landscape, enhance visitor experiences, and preserve its legacy as a place that remains free and accessible to all.”

The Garden of the Gods Park, known for its stunning red rock formations and rich cultural history, continues to be a major draw for tourists and locals alike. With these new contributions, the park’s continued preservation and improvement seem secure for the foreseeable future, ensuring it remains a treasured natural landmark for years to come.
