Colorado Springs to Decide on Karman Line Annexation in June 2025

Colorado Springs, CO — April 10, 2025 — On June 17, 2025, voters in Colorado Springs will cast their ballots to decide whether or not the city should annex the Karman Line Addition No. 6, a 1,876.24-acre area located northwest of the intersection of Bradley Road and Curtis Road.

The decision to hold a special election follows a citizen-initiated referendum petition that successfully gathered enough signatures to bring the issue before the city council. As a result, voters will now have the final say on whether the expansive plot of land will become part of the city.

The ballot language will read:
“Shall the voters approve Ordinance 25-16, annexing that area known as Karman Line Addition No. 6 consisting of 1,876.24 acres located northwest of the Bradley Road and Curtis Road intersection into the City of Colorado Springs?”

If the measure is approved, the annexation would significantly expand the city’s boundaries, potentially impacting zoning laws, development plans, and local infrastructure. The area in question has been the subject of public discussion for some time, with proponents citing the potential for economic growth and increased city services, while opponents raise concerns about the environmental impact and the strain on existing resources.

The city has set a timeline for the election. Military and overseas ballots will be mailed out on May 2, 2025, followed by the regular mail-out of ballots to Colorado Springs voters on May 23, 2025. All ballots must be returned to the city by 7:00 p.m. on June 17 to be counted.

This referendum marks a significant moment in Colorado Springs’ growth, with the outcome of the vote potentially reshaping the future of the region. Voters will have the opportunity to weigh in on the annexation, making it a highly anticipated decision in the months leading up to the election.
