Colorado Springs’ Recreational Marijuana Repeal Removed from April 2025 Ballot

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – February 13, 2025 – A controversial attempt to repeal recreational marijuana in Colorado Springs will not appear on the April 2025 municipal election ballot, following rulings from both the Colorado Supreme Court and a district court in El Paso County.

On Thursday, February 13, the Colorado Supreme Court declined to take up the case, leaving the district court’s decision intact. The district court had previously ruled in favor of plaintiffs involved in a lawsuit against the city, stating that the repeal of Ballot Question 300 should not be included in the upcoming election due to concerns about voter confusion and potential disenfranchisement.

In its decision, the district court emphasized that the city of Colorado Springs must take all necessary actions to ensure that the referendum does not appear on the ballot. The ruling was intended to protect the integrity of the election process and avoid misleading voters.

The city of Colorado Springs confirmed that the repeal measure would not be included on the April 2025 municipal election ballot. As a result of the ruling, the city also announced that the deadline for printing and mailing overseas and active-duty military ballots has been extended. Ballots will now be sent out on Tuesday, February 18.

This decision comes after a lengthy legal battle over the fate of recreational marijuana within the city, which has been a divisive issue for some time. The ruling ensures that voters will not face confusion about the status of marijuana legalization when they cast their votes in the upcoming election.
